Oakland Coliseum, 1979
Jeff Beck is one of the Great Guitar player in the history of Rock & Roll. Replacing Clapton in the Yardbirds and taking them to places no one had ever gone before, creating riffs and sounds unheard of in pop music. Listen to Overundersidewaysdown. He was the next step from Link Wray to Led Zeppelin. Two of the anthems of my early days are his screaming version of "I'm A Man" and the understated "Train Kept A'Rollin". Late versions of the Yardbirds have Beck & Jimmy Page alternating on guitar. Forming the Jeff Beck Group with then unknown Rod Stewart produced some awesome work, again listen to Shapes or Jailhouse Rock but the coolest of this period is "Ain't Superstitious."
He was playing in Oakland Coliseum on a bill with Santana. (1976) When I approached him to take these shots, he looked at me like I was a piece of shit, but he did the shots.
